Shortness of breath, plantar fasciitis, joint pain, hypercholesterolemia, difficulty tying up my shoes or finding clothes that fit; I had had enough with the consequences of being overweight.
In the past 3 years, the only physical activity I did was walking. I had unsuccessfully tried losing weight by performing workouts with an exercise DVD, and had also attempted to follow the food guide, but my weight was still increasing steadily.
When I saw the ad for the Transform program on TV, I knew it was the solution for me. I gave myself a chance, and opted for the 6-month program to return to a healthy weight; I had about 40 pounds to lose.
Suzanne, my trainer, designed a program adapted to my physical condition. The approach to exercise progression, intensity, variety, and novelty, as well as the appropriate targeting of muscles, the choice of exercises based on my injury history, the use of the right machines, and the encouragement I received were all important aspects of my trainer’s contribution that were instrumental in maintaining my motivation.
My nutritionist Kelly analyzed my eating habits, and created a nutrition plan based on my basal metabolism, my exercise program, and my personal tastes. For me, the determining factors were the distribution of meals throughout the day, figuring out serving sizes for each food group, adding healthy fats to my nutrition, and acquiring new knowledge about how nutrients act in the body.
I particularly enjoyed the impedance test that enabled me to visualize my progress regarding fat loss and muscle gain. Every time I took the test, my healthy weight objective became clearer.
I lost 45 pounds over five and a half months through effort and perseverance. I still maintain my weight with the help of Suzanne and Kelly. We are gradually spacing out our appointments. During the holidays, I regained 4.5 pounds and had to work hard for 6 weeks to get rid of them. This was most difficult on the mental level.
One year after starting the program, I have lost 46 pounds* of fat and gained half a pound of muscle. My hypercholesterolemia medication has been lowered, my plantar fasciitis has improved, and my joints rarely ache now. I dropped 3 dress sizes, and I am full of energy. I am proud of my success.
My biggest challenge is to maintain my new habits and avoid excess.
